Best electric bike for the city in 2026
Four models we currently recommend for daily commuting, based on range, weight and hundreds of real Amazon reviews.
A city bike lives by different rules than a touring bike: you get on and off more often, stop at every light, and might park it outdoors. A range of 60-80km covers most commutes with room to spare; weight and gearing for bridges and speed bumps matter more than top speed, which is capped at 25km/h everywhere anyway.
The four models below aren't sponsored placements: we ranked them on a mix of rating, review count and value for money, all with at least a few dozen units sold as a baseline.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a removable battery if I live in the city?
Only if you don't have an outlet near where you park the bike, e.g. on the street or in a shared bike shed. If you keep it in your own storage room or garage with power, it matters less.
How many gears do I need in a city with bridges?
For flat terrain, 3-7 gears are enough; with lots of bridges or elevation, 7 gears or a wider-range hub is more comfortable, especially pulling away from a stop.
