Analysis
The Charger5 is Riese & Müller's versatile all-rounder: "the manoeuvrability of a mountain bike meets the comfort of a touring bike." New for 2026 is the Multi-Drive frame, which accepts both a Bosch Smart System motor (Performance Line CX, 85Nm, optionally upgradeable to 120Nm) and a Pinion MGU drive with an integrated gearbox — a first in the e-bike market.
The 540Wh battery (800Wh optional) is removable or can be charged via a socket on top of the frame. Riese & Müller deliberately doesn't state a fixed range, since it varies hugely with terrain and riding style; use their online range calculator for a realistic estimate. A front suspension fork (100mm, air or coil) and a sprung seatpost give comfort over unpaved terrain, with load capacity up to 27kg on the MIK HD rack plus panniers.
Note: this is a reference model, included to compare premium brands against the Amazon models in this comparator. There's no affiliate link: Riese & Müller sells through a physical dealer network, not Amazon. The listed price (€6,899) is the Enviolo trim recommended by Dutch dealers; other configurations run up to over €9,500. Captured August 2026, price and specs may have since changed.
Pros
- Unique Multi-Drive frame: compatible with both Bosch and Pinion drives
- Removable battery, up to 800Wh optional
- High load capacity (27kg rack + panniers)
- Very high maximum user weight (125kg)
Cons
- By far the most expensive bike in the whole comparison (from €5,299, recommended trim €6,899)
- No fixed range stated by the manufacturer
Ideal for: Demanding riders after the very best in drivetrain, comfort and versatility, willing to pay the premium price at a specialist dealer.
